SMOOTH JAZZ · CONTEMPORARY JAZZ · MONTEREY · CALIFORNIA · UNITED STATES
The world's smooth jazz station, 24/7. Handcrafted smooth jazz and contemporary jazz streaming from the California coast to listeners worldwide.
📻 History: SmoothJazz.com Global went on the air online in 2000, one of three internet stations that began broadcasting worldwide that year, alongside Radio Paradise and Digitally Imported. It was founded by Sandy Shore and Donna Phillips, California radio, concert and design veterans; Shore had worked as a DJ for more than four decades on stations in Monterey, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
The pair had registered the domain back in 1995, after Monterey's contemporary jazz FM station changed formats again and left local fans without a home for the genre. Shore describes the project as the first jazz radio station on the internet. The stream is human-programmed 24 hours a day, and the team publishes a weekly Top 50 Album Chart for the smooth jazz community.
In 2005 they launched a sister station, SmoothLounge.com, devoted to nu jazz and chill-out music. The network has also used station-ID jingles from the Italian company Jingles Factory, and Shore hosts the ShoreCuts podcast, where she talks with recording artists about their new releases. Its tagline is "Smooth. Global. Living."
