Positive Hits and Hip Hop. WHGV 99.5 FM brings the Christian hip hop and R&B sound of Hot 95.9 to Gainesville, the University of Florida campus and all of Alachua County.
📻 History: WHGV 99.5 FM, branded Hot 95.9, is a Class A Christian hip hop station licensed to Gainesville, Florida, and first signed on in 1999. Its call letters stand for "Hot Gainesville". Before June 1, 2013 the signal, then WBXY, programmed a news/talk format as 99.5 The Star.
After its sale from Asterisk Communications to JVC Media, the station switched to a dance format called Party 99.5, modeled on JVC's sister station WPTY on Long Island, New York. JVC spun it off in early 2014, and by 2016, under the call sign WGMW, it was running adult standards before moving to soft adult contemporary on June 6, 2016.
In 2022 Central Florida Educational Foundation arranged a station swap with its Ocala sister WCYZ 99.7 FM (Z88.3). On September 1, 2022 the Gainesville signal took the call sign WHGV, and the deal closed on September 30, 2022. Today it is operated by Z Ministries, Inc. and broadcasts at 2,200 watts ERP, simulcasting the Christian hip hop and R&B programming of Hot 95.9.
