Orlando's Positive Rock Alternative: Christian rock and alternative music on 88.3 HD4 and online, from the Z Ministries family of stations.
📻 History: The Rock HD is the Christian rock and alternative channel of Z Ministries in Orlando, broadcast on the HD4 digital subchannel of WPOZ 88.3 FM, which listeners can tune with an HD Radio receiver, and online at TheRockHD.com. WPOZ itself signed on in 1995 as WEAZ, licensed to Union Park, Florida, and is owned by Central Florida Educational Foundation, Inc. In 1998 it became WPOZ, a call sign standing for "Positive Hits Z88.3," a deliberate contrast to secular Top 40 radio.
When its power later rose to 100,000 watts, with FCC authorization granted in late 2008, its city of license moved to Orlando. WPOZ is operated by Z Ministries, Inc., which runs a family of Christian stations across Central Florida, including WMYZ, WHYZ, WCYZ, WHGV and WDOZ, plus a network of FM translators.
The Rock was long known as 103.7 The Rock, also heard through a low-powered repeater in Clermont (W279CT). That facility was later traded to RDA Broadcast Holdings, LLC in exchange for stations WCYZ 99.7 Ocala and WHGV 99.5 Gainesville, so the brand no longer has a conventional FM signal of its own. Its playlist features artists such as Skillet, Red and Thousand Foot Krutch, and its studios are in Altamonte Springs.
