Jazz24: commercial-free jazz around the clock from KNKX Public Radio, with the greatest jazz artists of all time and today's top talents.
📻 History: Jazz24 is a commercial-free, 24/7 online jazz station from KNKX Public Radio in Tacoma, Washington, featuring the greatest jazz artists of all time alongside today's top talents. It is also carried on the HD2 subchannel of KNKX 88.5 FM, and it shares its curated jazz with listeners around the world.
KNKX itself debuted on November 16, 1966 as KPLU-FM, owned by Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland. After a proposed sale to the University of Washington, owner of NPR station KUOW-FM, met strong opposition from listeners, the station became a community licensee in 2016, and on August 12, 2016 it adopted the call letters KNKX, pronounced "connects."
Today it airs jazz, blues and NPR news from studios in downtown Tacoma and Seattle, and it moved its Tacoma studio to 930 Broadway in downtown Tacoma after a 2018 announcement. Its stated mission is excellence in jazz, blues and news with stories that inspire, inform and connect the community. Since 2005 its School of Jazz outreach program has been a cornerstone of that mission, and hosts such as Myah Rose and Abe Beeson bring the music to listeners on KNKX and Jazz24.
