Magic 92.5 is "The Beat of San Diego," playing classic soul, R&B, disco and old school favorites for the San Diego–Tijuana area at 92.5 FM.

📻 History: XHRM was tentatively assigned in 1967 to José Luis Rivas Marentes, whose company Radio Moderna Mexicana obtained the concession for 92.5 FM on January 19, 1972; it is recognized as Baja California's first FM station. The station debuted in February 1979 as San Diego's first urban contemporary FM station, with soul, rap and gospel, programmed by a U.S. company under the Mexican concession, and in the 1980s its mix of mainstream R&B and Latin freestyle became its signature.

A January 1988 storm toppled its Tijuana transmitter, and after nine months of reduced power and a dispute over unpaid fees, the concessionaire ordered the U.S. programmers off the air in November 1989 and relaunched it as "Power 92-5." It returned to an urban sound as "Hot 92.5" in May 1990, the same year founding owner Rivas Marentes died in a plane crash. On June 29, 1993 it switched to modern rock as "92.5 The Flash," and in January 1998 to adult album alternative as "Independent Radio 92/5ive."

On September 7, 1998, the "Magic 95-7" R&B format moved to 92.5, soon evolving into rhythmic oldies under the slogan "San Diego's Old School," which made it the top-rated station in the San Diego market for a period and again from 2007 for several years. Finest City Broadcasting programmed it by 2009, and in January 2010 Local Media of America acquired those programming rights, becoming Local Media San Diego in February 2011. In 2011 and 2012 it leaned toward rhythmic adult contemporary, and on January 10, 2013 it adopted the slogan "The Beat of San Diego" and a new logo.

Today it plays classic soul and R&B from the late 1960s to the 1990s, disco and classic dance, and some old school hip-hop, with an "Old School Block Party" on Saturday nights. The concession is held by Comunicación XERSA; its studios are in San Diego's Sorrento Valley, and its 100,000-watt signal comes from Mount San Antonio in Tijuana.
